AN ECO-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVE PROTEIN

The consumption of wild, eco-friendly, natural seal meat and omega-3 seal oil has many health benefits, while the textiles derived from the seal are an ecofriendly alternative to non-renewable (plastic) clothing.

Both Harp and Grey Seal are listed as “Smarter Seafood” by Exploramer, a certification program that ensures marine resources are managed and used responsibly.

100% CANADIAN

Sealing is a vital activity for tens of thousands of rural Canadians, both indigenous and non-indigenous.  When you choose to purchase Canadian Seal meat, you choose to support local, rural Canadian communities, with few alternative means of economic sustainability.

SEAL MEAT POPULATION EVOLUTION

The annual seal harvest is an integral part of responsible marine ecosystem management. In cases like in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence, where Northern Cod is likely to be soon extirpated due to seal predation, sealing provides an ecosystem service and enables sustainable growth of commercial fisheries.

THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA AND SEAL OVERPOPULATIONS

Canada’s seal harvest is the most carefully watched hunt in the world. Each year the Canadian Government set an annual quota, monitors and regulates hunting while ensuring  the highest standard of quality are respected for seal meat.  The seal population is healthy and abundant, the hunt is sustainably managed, and sealers are well-trained and respectful of the ecosystem.
